The Gresley Society was founded in 1963 to promote interest in the life and work of Sir Nigel Gresley.
Meetings are held in the Spring and Autumn, at various locations, when there are illustrated talks often by well known speakers.
The Society Owns two examples of Sir Nigel Gresley’s designs; an ex-GNR Class N2 0-6-2 tank engine, No.1744, which was built by the North British Locomotive Co. in 1921, and Ex-LNER pressure ventilated Buffet Lounge Car No. NE1852E, built at Doncaster in 1938 for one of the two new sets of stock for the “Flying Scotsman”.
